Duel mode guide

Two Pokémon, one hidden stat: pick which one is taller, heavier, faster or stronger. Rules, difficulty, scoring and tips for PokeVS's Duel mode.

How it works

Each round shows two Pokémon side by side and a question about one hidden stat: which one is taller, heavier, faster, or has more HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense or base stat total. Some rounds flip the question and ask which one is shorter, lighter or slower, so read it before you tap.

Everyone answers at the same time and gets a single pick. The real values of both Pokémon are revealed together when the 12 seconds run out, or as soon as everyone has picked.

Difficulty ramps up

A match has 10 rounds and the matchups get closer as it goes. In rounds 1 to 3 the two values are more than 40% apart; in rounds 4 to 7 they differ by 20% to 40%; from round 8 on they are within 20% of each other. Values are never exactly tied, and the same pair is never asked twice about the same stat in a room.

Scoring

With only two choices, speed is what separates players. A correct pick is worth 80 points minus 5 for every second you took, with a minimum of 16. A wrong pick is worth 0 and never takes away points you already have.
